Vintage? How about ancient. Last viewed: 22 hours ago

I'm new to this forum but not new to drumming. I started when I was around 7 and I'm 66. I still have my Ludwig Oyster Blue Pearl Club Date I bought in 1964-5.

My big question is regarding some pieces and parts of a really old Ludwig kit that I bought at a local public auction that I was told actually belonged to my father. My dad played drums circa 1930-1935. He would have graduated from high school in 1935 so it was definitely before WWII. Here are some pics of what I bought. I'd really like to at least get them dated. Not sure what I'm going to do with them.

I believe the drum dates from the 1930's according to the drum guide badges...here's a link

Very neat stuff. Even so much more special in that they were your Dad's. Overall they look great with the exception of the damage on the one. It could be finessed back in shape with some work.

Would love to see your Club Dates!

Here's my Club Date. I still have some original heads. This kit went through four young guys while they were playing in school in the 1980s through the 2000s. It's held up very well over the years. It's a nickel plate kit, not chrome. Paid $325 for it new. That was a lot of money in the mid 1960s which according to the Ludwig catalog was pretty much list price. It has a Krut (used to call it CRUD) sizzle cymbal. It's set up in my rec room across from a First Act kit we picked up at a thrift store that my 5 year old grandson plays. He also has a CB Drums 5 piece kit at his home.

The wood block is a Ludwig that came with the 1930s kit. There was also a couple of pairs of sticks, one being a dark wood, maybe walnut?

Very very nice. A one owner kit. Awesome. Love the bass drum hoop inlays still intact and beautiful...

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Welcome to the forum TC. I have to tell you, nice set!

I'm a fairly new member too. Like yourself, I still have and play my original set except mine is a Hollywood in Champagne Sparkle that I bought in March of 1965. It's nice to see another set with the original owner and 50 plus year together. (People say a dog is mans best friend, but my drums might have the edge on the family dog at least more longevity!) Likewise, my dad was a musician but he didn't play drums though, he played clarinet and sax. :)

From TCGroff

Here's my Club Date.[...]

Those have aged like a fine wine. Super cool, and I agree one-owner is admirable - I wish I'd been that type of guy....although I now happily own Club Dates and wouldn't have purchased them back in the day. OTOH I would still own Gretsch walnut SS, 12 14 20....that wouldn't be too bad. :)
