Vintage drum market and values dead?

Loading...

Friends, I am a bit disappointed with the action on my no reserve auction for my beloved 1960 Ludwig Jazz Festival BDP/NOB snare.

Help me out here and let me know your opinion of the value. My estimation is 650-$$950 +

This seems like a steal at $500 and no bids. Whats it worth in a good market?

Or i will be forced to think this market is as dead as a new drum from walmart.

i cant get the link to work but it is on ebay easy to find ending sunday.

The color is one of my favorites, But BDP is not a favorite color nor is Nickel hardware. $300.00 + is the real ball park for your drum

I don't understand this as nickel to me is so much warmer and vintage mojo boomin. Chrome is just chrome - it's on everything, no biggie. Not arguing just thinkin out loud...:)

daring72, I bow to vm2k on value.

Another thing to consider is there was a feeding frenzy for 60's Ludwigs. It stands to reason that there will be a glut of used 60's Ludwigs appearing on eBay and other sites for used drum sales. We know that is happening in a large scale for lower line Pearl drums from the 80's and 90's.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I think the nickel and uniqueness of the badge and hardware stand a more rare place in Ludwig history.

Thank you Mitch for your comment about the warmth and vintage look of nickel.

this drum looks and sounds like $500. you cant replace it with overseas crap for $300 Just sayin.

Thanks guys

I just last week got a 1964 BDP Pioneer in nickel finish it is in very good condition the same year as my super classic kit, for 125.00 off of CL the seller started it at $175.00 I offered him my $125.00 the first day he ran his ad, this lasted for two months, He called me and stated I was the only buyer with a real offer to his ad. This drum I just bought is your jazzfest minus two lugs. I agree with you but the market is down and this is what they are selling for now

They made a ton of black diamond back in the day. Blair's pretty accurate on the price. I'd say 375-400.

What the hell is a snare drum?!

Oh you mean that's where they got the name for drum-machines?

It's not the "boom" but the "chick" right?

I work with a lot of 18-20 year olds, and they were talking about 808's

And didn't even know where the name came from.

I'm only 37 but I'm the crazy old guy with all the old drums.

I'd say you guys are right the 60's were a time of mass production.

So I say it's a buyers market. I don't want to sell them, I want to play them!!

I like Drums...

1964 Leedy (Slingerland) Blue n Silver Duco
1964 Ludwig Club Date Sparkling Silver Pearl

I have bought and sold a lot of Jazzfests. $500 was top dollar for a champagne sparkle that matched someone's kit exactly. Right time, right buyer and so forth. $300 is fair for your snare with maybe $450 on the high end. I just bought a more rare and complete downbeat for less than you are asking. Also normally I buy jazzfests for $100 to $200.
