Trying to identify a Supersensitive snare.

Loading...

I'm trying to identify a Ludwig Supersensitive snare. The badge matches the mid- 80's keystone shown here. http://www.supersensitivesnaredrum.com/article_badges.html However, the pictured badge says Monroe NC. My badge looks identical except it says Chicago. If anyone has any info on what this drum might be or the value of it, it would be much appreciated.

To me it appears to be this badge, but I'm wondering why it says Chicago instead of Monroe.

I guess I'm hoping its something rare so it will be worth more haha.

Looks like a 60s Keystone to me. 6 digit ser.# appears to be in the 65 range. See this chart... http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/serial_numbers.html

It's not a 60's badge, it's a recent badge before the move to Monroe. They moved to Monroe in 1984.

So it is a early/mid 80's? Also does anyone know what it might be worth, or what they are selling for? I can't seem to find any similar models for sale to gauge value. It is in pretty good shape, but has some of the pitting on the chrome.

Yep, the drum is early 1980. The 1960s Keystone badges looked really different.

the Value depends on the overall condition and size.... more pics would help, i guess...

Brian, here's a 6 1/2x14" in excellent condition on ebay now! yours is newer and not in excellent condition, yours is probably in the $250.00 range. http://cgi.ebay.com/Ludwig-Super-Sensitive-Snare-Drum-6-5-x14-/320582294462?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aa4319bbe

At LEAST $250. More like $350 in my opinion. That auction has 4 days left and is at $450? That is more than I would think it should go for, but the market is a bit fickle, and it is a very clean example.

Yours is Late Chicago era. Just slightly newer than the auction linked to, before the move to Monroe. Jonni, the size of the badge is what you use in this case and the serial number is obscured by the scratching. I have seen SS snares that size usually go for less than supra 402s. It should clean up nicely. That is one of my favorite snares of all time.
