Trying to find out year of manufacturing Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Hi, I have a Slingerland Drum set that I bought at a yard sale several years ago. I have the Bass, 2 toms, snare, high hat and larger cymbal. It's in ok shape. It's a pearl colored set and the badge has a serial # of 117352. I was able to find out that the set is from the 60's. If anyone has any other info, please let me know.

Thanks,

David

You did not ask the usual questions about the value of the drums. Thanks for that. We really need to see detailed pictures of the drums and the go-withs in order to give you anything resembling good information about how original the drums are regarding parts and exterior finish. We can probably give you opinions on the condition and degree of original parts. Knowing the dimensions (depth and diameter) of the drums can also help us provide more information. We Slingerland guys are always eager to help out.

Thank you both for your feedback. I'm attaching pics of my set. I have the cymbals for the high hat as well as a ride cymbal Zilgiian if I'm not mistaken. Any feedback would be very appreciated. I was only able to upload 5 pics.

Thank you!

You have a good looking drum set in White Marine Pearl wrap. I agree with the estimated year of manufacture to be in the early 1960s. The floor tom and bass drum need resonant side hoops and heads. I couldn't make out which model of snare drum you have. But, the butt end of the snare strainer appears to be a Radio King. What sizes are the drums?

your kit is a cataloged kit called the gene krupa deluxe 1N the snare drum is a artist model, it could be a solid shell model but I would need to see the inside to determine that.

Nice.

That's a twin to a set I bought in 1967.

Thank you to all for your help. I'll add a few more pics. I'm also going to add pics of the cymbals to the "Vintage cymbal" forum. Again, any help would be great!

Thank you,

David

Hi, sorry I didn't see the question about the sizes. If I remember correctly, the snare is 5x14, tom is 9x13, base is 20", floor tom is 14x14. I still have the set, although I may sell it. I've grown attached and if anything, I'm taking good care of it. The following is from the Cooper's Vintage Drum site.

"1962: After 22 years the venerable Super (“clam shell”) strainer was replaced with the new Zoomatic strainer. Drums equipped with this new strainer were called Artist models. The shells were of solid maple but by 1970, the Artist models were made exclusively with three ply shells. Serial numbers were now stamped into every badge.
