Trying to date my (70's?) Rogers Dynasonic

Loading...

I've got a beautiful COB Dynasonic which I believe to be 70's-era, but, just out of curiousity, I'd like to know a little more exactly when & where it might've been made.

The serial # is 41671 with the Rogers script logo. I came across a few dating guides online, but none of them contain any info about the 41xxx serial numbers. The closest thing I found was 42xxx – 55xxx (1970, Fullerton).

Also, it's got the 4-piece bottom hoop with the spot-welded gates, and the "blunt end"-style snare frame. From what I've read, the blunt-end frame was introduced in 1974.

Any info on this drum from the Rogers experts here will be much appreciated.

thanks,

JohnB

Your serial is definitely fullerton, 73.74. As for the Dynasonic frame, yours could possibly be original to the drum. 73 catalogue still shows the earlier frame and bottom hoop, however, somewhere around the mid 4xxxx numbers, the bottom hoop and snare frame changed. Does your drum have springless lugs, ie, C clip groove in the lug incert with c clip keeping it from droping. 55xxx numbers were close to the end of the oval badge run, 75. I base my comment upon posts made by the late Longroll. He knew these drums better than anyone.

Thanks, Ploughman.

I actually came across an updated version of the dating guide I had looked at, and it also seems to confirm your opinion that it's 1974 (Fullerton).

I'm now pretty convinced that the blunt-end snare frame is probably original; or at least "period-correct" for that drum.

I'll take a look at the lugs as you suggested. I'm curious to see if they're spring type or c-clip.

The Rogers info here on this forum is very interesting. Never knew much about them - I've always been a vintage Ludwig man. But I'm sure lovin' that Dynasonic - sounds awesome with my '66 BDP Ludwig kit.

thanks again,

JohnB
