to buy or not to buy Ludwig B/O concert tom set Last viewed: 1 minute ago

a friend of mine is selling

a 6pc blue olive wrap 13 14 15 16 18 22 for 475

thinking about it but i think price is high

the lowest he will go is 475

was considering selling off the 18 and the 14 and 15 to lower the cost but sounds like a costly project plus i will need the extra lugs to put a bottom rim on the 13.

Although I think his kit is 3 ply . is this a good buy. dont want to lose big if i sell down the road

Whats your thoughts on this??

Try to post pics friend. The color of wrap would be really helpful. Concert toms definitely have a lower value but if you are looking for a good player that may be a pretty fair deal. The shells should have a bottom ring and just need to be drilled for the lugs. May be worth doing really! If you are going to keep it anyway.

Pictures; what wrap? You can't expect an appraisal without pics.

I personally would love to see pics. I like the B/O era. Are both FT's double headed in that kit? I also wouldn't break up a kit, to make a "tribute" kit. I would propose drilling a concert tom, to make it a double-header, would kill future value, nevermind, losing original condition status. But that's me. I'm narrow-minded with that sort of thing. Look forward to your pics.

It is very possible that the 16" is a concert tom. It would be interesting to note the perceived "value" of an original concert tom kit vs. a modified concert tom to double headed conversion. If it is done well I bet it would be a wash and, for me, would certainly improve it's value.

Other than the fact that most people don`t know what they`re doing with a C-tom kit,...Why would you convert it to double head ? That defeats the porpus !!

Lack of talent should never be an excuse to destroy something perfectly funtional !!

I completely understand where you're coming from oddball and I appreciate fatchoppers dilemma but I think that the concert tom provides a substantial cost saving alternative for players that prefer traditional double headed drums. The $475.00 for these drums is probably a way lower price tag than a traditional kit of the same configuration. (although due to the rising prices of hardware it could be a wash) Most manufacturers' concert shells as ec stated were set up for 2 heads anyway. Having said that, if this is a player's kit and you don't like the sound of concert toms and drilling doesn't scare you...do the simple conversion...you won't regret it...I'm with tnsquint on this one.

If you're thinking of converting a concert tom to a two headed drum you may want to check the drum to make sure the bottom is "in round" before proceeding.

Sounds like a Quardra,..Savings is even a more horrid reason to destroy a funtional kit. His bass and FT are double head,.the Supra sounds like it`s not included,..to convert,...wont fool guys like me or the many here. First,..the tom mounts are located near the top head cuz they`re top heavy, the double headed drums have the mount in the center to balance.

Second,..I don`t ever recall seeing or hearing about three ply C-Toms !!

Mine are nine ply and just as round as the day they were made,..these are prolly the same or six ply, IDK cuz I`m a sonor guy !!

I do recall several 20`s and 30`s party kits with a single head tom that could be three ply but I think were solid !! I aint that old though !!

Greed works on the stock market,...not your drums !!
