Thoughts on 1970's WMP Ludwigs?

Loading...

Hey all,

Don't know a ton about Ludwig, but a dude close to me is selling a WMP 1970's Ludwig set, 12-13-16-22 plus snare, with Atlas hardware and some vintage Zildjians (don't have specific details on those) for around $1600 (Canadian).

What do you think?

They seem in good condition, with the notable exception of the wrap on the floor tom having lifted quite a bit. I've wanted some vintage Ludwigs for a while, but is this a bargain?

Or just an average deal?

Thanks!

PS: are these early or late 1970's?

Judging from the tom mounting hardware, I'd say this is an early 70s set, but I'm certainly no expert.

1600 Canadian seems like a fair price to me. Not a spectacular deal, just a fair price, I think. Is a hi-hat included?

Edit: Oh and check if those drums are 3ply or 6ply. If they were 6ply, the price would be too high, IMHO.

Three, I think. HH, crash, and ride, all apparently similar era vintage.

the drums by themselves would go in the 1200.00 range. So not a bad deal.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Re: 3 or 6 ply, I'm not 100% sure...here are some internal shots.

What do you think?

Can you tell?

they are 3 ply. And I think these are ludwig's pinnacle in wooden shells. the 6 ply will not have reinforcement rings in them. Also the wrap lift is an easy fix on the floor tom.

Early 70's 3 ply for sure, and look like the 5/16" curved BD spurs...hard to find these babies around hence the price!!! Fair price for sure...good deal ???...debatable. They are only worth what your willing to pay. I had a set very similar ('72 stamped inside) and they were ENORMOUS!!!! Awesome tone and resonance. I believe the snare is LM-401?? Mine would "rip your face off" ! Great kit!Cool1

The snare drum is a LM 400 supraphonic.
