Unfortunately I don't know the maker and could not find any markings. Here is another one that has a known maker, a Frisco. I see the patent number on this but can't find it when doing a google search on that number. The beater is one of the Slingerland cork beaters with a calfskin cover. I did not bend it, it came that way. Thanks, Joe

Here's my updated "Looking For" list. Please let me know if you have any leads for me! Then, a couple of special Ludwig pedals I was able to find over the last year or so.

SAZ, Can you enlighten me on the Ludwig cymbal dampener that attached to the bracket holding the cymbal on the bass drum that was hit with the "clanger" attached to the pedal beater? I think it was in the early catalogs and had a string to attach to a little metal loop at the top (near the beater ball) of the beater shaft. The function was to dampen the cymbal when the beater returned to its original position. I am also curious about the "alternating" feature that has a half tom tom mount looking mechanism at the bottom of the pedal post. Maybe I can find some photos to make this clearer, it certainly is hard to describe. In the meantime, here are some more pedal photos. Thanks, Joe

You hit the dampener on the head. The alternating feature was used to hit the cymbal with the clanger or alternate by using the lever on the pedal to not hit the cymbal. I never tried this pedal but it seems to me that you had to be pretty quick to do it while playing!

SAZ, Thanks so much for the photos and information. I agree that the old time drummers must have had some very fast feet to work these things. I also saw some similar mechanisms on Tim Northrup's Facebook page. I am trying to research these early cymbal attachments. Thanks again, Joe

SAZ and John, Thanks so much. It turns out I had a copy of that patent but had not looked at it in a while (or carefully). I have a couple of the old Ludwig pedals with that half bracket but could not figure out what they were used for. I thought maybe they were a part of a mythical Dubl Pedl as in the photo. John- I love the Speed/Sound King or is that Sound/Speed King? Oh I know, it is the "Speed of Sound" King! Thanks guys, I am so glad that I am not the only one out there with foot pedal disease. Joe
