I wasn't calling anyone here a bonehead. I used the word "forum" covering ALL forums on the web.Bonehead was said to me when I asked an Ebay Seller about pricing. That was her response, where she got her prices from I have no clue.So if the term bonehead offended you Mikey, I do apologize.Ok, let me ask you Mikey, that Slingy snare for $1,000 on Ebay do you feel, with your background that the $1,000 is a fair and accurate price in this market, such as it is?

No hard fellings my friend..On the snare on Ebay its a 60's model and common color its not a rare drum..I would say in todays market 225.00-275.00....Mikey

If I could find a Chicago era single ply Radio King in BDP and in that condition for $275 I would consider myself very lucky.

Anybody have one?

On the other hand $800+ is pretty much wishful thinking.

My favorite is still the guy who scoured the world for the most exquisite MP 60s era Slingerlands and wanted something reeeeaaaaaly stupid like $7000.

There is a noticeable difference between the top of the lug lip to the headring and the bottom of the lug to the bottom headring. Look at all the photo`s,..it`s not the angle or the camera,..there is a difference !!

Is this normal for this drum ?

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

Maybe it's just me , but the throw on the strainer looked bent towards the rim.

I think there was a gray area as to when ( around 1955 ) that Slingerland put the Rapid strainers on some of their RK snares but didn't have the RK brackets on them???

If that's a 50's drum shouldn't it have the standard 3 point strainer?? My Student Radio King has the traditional/classic straight throw handled 3 point strainer.

Maybe I'm messed up or can't make out the camera angle but that's what jumped out at me along with the hefty dough ray me price tag.

I think I might be missing something.........any "help from the boat"?

The drum appears legit to me.

The bridges and 3-point appear to be correct for the year of the badge (59-61).

To point out again, there is a Buy It Now price posted of $995.00 with a Make Offer option available.

If you have been searching fruitlessly for a matching RK for your '59 to '61 outfit and you have $995.00 of discretionary income that you would be willing to spend on this snare, then this one might be for you, pull the trigger.

I don't regard a BIN price with an option of a Make Offer as any expectation of a seller to get the BIN price for their item, nor as any indication that they feel the item is worth that price other than to that rare individual that for whatever reason wishes to pay that amount.

Just my pennies worth for free.......:)

I've had this ongoing theory that ebay is ruining "Affordability" and otherwise putting the idea in people's heads that they can get rich off of their old junk on the simple merit that it's old.

For conversation's sake, do you suppose vintage drum prices would be where they are today if ebay never existed?

I know there would still be a lot of the long-standing "old school" music stores in business that have folded lately.......

Face-to-face Bartering and Customer Service and, "Lay Away" options would still be some ongoing features....... dang....:(:(:(
