I've had my share of disappointments, but the surreptitious "scores" make it all worth it!
1. On the local CL, a junk store owner was selling an all original champagne sparkle Gretsch RB kit. Hardware, cymbals, the works. Listed at 200 bucks. I called 20 min after it was posted and he said somebody had already picked them up and that he had gotten several calls. I didn't have the heart to tell him why....
2. 15 years ago I used to go to a church that had a keystone BDP Ludwig kit up on the stage. One week, I show up and theres a brand new pearl export, complete with crappy ZBT cymbals. I asked the music minister what became of the other kit and he said they just threw them out since they were so old. If God is truly just, hopefully the trash man was a drummer and saved the poor things.
My original set was a MIJ blue sparkle that I added a '57 Ludwig tom & kick that matched. Sold the whole thing for dirt cheap to get a bigger set.....
Around 14, a local store had a Tama brass bell snare for $400. That was a lot for a kid.....
I had one on Saturday. I was at the local drum shop and there was a mid 60's Ludwig snare. I believe a pioneer. They wanted 150 but my wife looked me and said "no, we don't have the money."
I've been heart broken all week.
