Ringo was an ok drummer, nothing special... the beatles wouldve NEVER got off the ground if it werent for george martin, he MADE them!

OK... I'm really tired of hearing this!!! Was Ringo a "technical" drummer? NO! Did he possess an almost metronome timing and inventiveness for every song? You betcha! I doubt any other drummer available at this time period could have propelled the Beatles to stardom. Let's face it, just watching Ringo play was fun! Oh yeah, an he sure helped Ludwig sell thousands of kits, not to mention that more than a few of us on this forum wanted to play drums after seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan!

Its the truth, just because some overrate them doesnt mean they lived up to it. It was a hype machine for those needing an interesting crutch. They werent a bad group but they were fabricated by suits that knew how to market well. The english groups never had the talent the americans did but they knew how to run with it. Just because few like to say it how it is doesnt mean it wasnt true. Mcdonalds sells a lotta burgers but they aint the best. Ill give it to the mccartney/martin team, they got many to latch on the bandwagon, but as said before- quantity over quality is what the masses eat up, no matter if its shoved down their throats.

I still love the feel and sound of a 14" floor tom. I also love Beatles and Beach Boys music.

From RickP

For many drummers a 14" is easier to tune and get a pleasing sound out of. I like the fact the 14" sounds good tuned up or down, to my ear it has a wider tuning range where it sounds good than a 16" floor tom.

I'm with you there. Seems to me the 14 is just a deadly sounding drum.

Not going to get into the dangerous debate of American vs British musicians and songwriters. I'll paraphrase our old friend Phil Collins, who I believe once said that Americans might have been better musicians, but the British might have been better songwriters. x-mas3

SO what does this have to do with a 14" drum question the original poster asked? Bit off topic to stir up the masses?

Josh, keep saying this but it still isn't true. The Beatles are one of the best of the best Period .your revisionist history isn't holding no water here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tH9zG28GQEg

Agree completely! When they played it was MAGIC.

Nothing to poo-poo on here.
