Check out "Paintless Dent Removel" body shops. They use air pressure to take out dents.
Thank you for the suggestion, sir. I'll check out these shops today.

That would be great! Where is your Dad? It's all about detail. Thanks! Brian
Hey....we are in Vaughan...it may be a stretch, but I can ask him. What exactly did you want to do?

Hello!
Thanks very much for replying. I talked to my bass player about an hour ago. He has a buddy who is into hot rods and body repair. The bassist will be seeing him next week. Basically he told me he'd see what his friend could do. My old marching snare has seen better days. I'd like some small and a few other dents (about 3/4 inch) coaxed out of the COB shell. Nothing huge but, it bothers my OCD to see the imperfections there. Thanks very much for the wonderful suggestion though. I wouldn't want to bother your dad if there is a simpler way. I REALLY appreciate your offer though. Thanks!

Gentlemen:
I just dropped my old marching snare off at an auto body shop in a nearby city. The shop offers paintless dent removal. Turns out the owner and I went to public school together! He introduced me to his best bodyman who proceeded to give me a demonstration on one of the snares dings. Amazing! George, the owner asked me to leave my drum with the promise that it would be pampered and treated with utmost care. He said he's call when the job is done. I'll keep everyone posted as soon as I learn of the outcome.

Brian - This is a very cool experiment! I recently acquired a second pre-serial Ludwig COB Super that has a few dingers in the shell.
If this works for you... I'm next!
Shoot, I may even send you the shell and pay your guy to do it! At least I'll know that it will be done right.
Keep us posted, please. Don't forget, 'before' and 'after' photos!

Hey, John and friends!
I just returned from the autobody shop with my old marching snare shell. I haven't even put the hardware back on yet. It looks amazing! I am more than satisfied! If anyone wants to go through the process, be sure you deal with a "Paintless Dent Removal" specialist. My guy was a magician! He worked on the drum for an hour and a half. With our wonderful Canadian taxes, it came to $84.75.I wish I could send pictures but, I can't. The specialist's wand did leave a few minor scratches in the inner shell where some of the larger dents had to be coaxed out a bit harder with the wand.Even with my OCD, I can live with that. Just passing on a good experience. Hope it helps someone.

Awesome! Glad to hear it worked outCool1
I think you should use a guy that repairs horns.I bought a vintage Conn alto sax last year that had a few dents in it, and sent it to this guy on Long Island for new pads and dent repair.
When I got it back, you couldn't see ANY dents in this horn.
My brother is a really good body and fender guy,and he told me to do that and that he gets requests all the time to remove dents from metal drums and horns. He was spot on with the info.
Remember, the metal used in car bodies is a lot heavier gauge than a drum shell, unless it's a cast shell.
