Take a look at the Ludwig Pioneer I just got! Last viewed: 1 day ago

Super excited. Yes, I paid for it, but honestly not anywhere near what I've seen them go for, at least in my searches, and it's really in impeccable condition.

I mean, first of all, that throw-off is in amazing shape. Th inside of the shell is almost mint, and while anything like that always makes me think it's been re-painted, I can kind of tell because around the badge grommet it looks original. Either way, I'm seeing this as just a drum that was well-taken care of over the years.

Even cooler, is the badges are pretty close... (I know that really never mattered) but because this drum has no date stamp I just have to assume we're talking 65-67, same range my kit is from.

Pretty stoked to finally have a matching Pioneer. This was on eBay so maybe some of you saw it but I made him an offer and he accepted. Superb packing job also, I have to give this guy credit. Even the manufacturers don't pack their shells anywhere near how well he did.

Kits:

1959 Ludwig Pioneer Mahogany
60's Ludwig Pioneer Gold Sparkle
60's Ludwig Acrolite (Keystone)

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Nice, is that a refinish? I have a '59 mahogany Pioneer I stripped down and kept natural but I want to finish the job soon.

Not sure. Mine's a stamped Mar 19, 1958. Bought it as a shell and lugs at the Hollywood Drum Show 15, or so years ago. It was finished that way, so I've just waxed it and left it alone. That and my Keystone Acro get packed for almost all gigs lately. I've got ton's more, but I think I'm gonna start clearing them. Just can't seem to find an occasion that those two won't fill for me......

And my Radio Kings. And my SSB Gretsch. And my Rogers. And my Slingerlands. Just really good, versatile, warm, full snares. A keeper, if I've ever owned one! Like a well worn pair of jeans. Works in all situations!
