Stripped tube-lug threads - help

I have these 1930's Gretsch tube lugs and some of them have stripped threads inside.

Anyone here know how to deal with that?

I will probabley end up going to a machine shop and having an 'insert' put in and have them re-thread to the tension rods. If there is an easier way please let me know.

They're brass

Thanks,

Gary

Try running a tap through them first, it might clean up the thread. Take a tension rod and lug to a good hardware store to get the correct size tap.

Definitely try a tap first. From the picture the threads don't look too bad. Use care, you don't want to make the situation worse.

The photo of the tube lug here is not the one that's stripped - it's just an example of the lug. I found three that are stripped (the t-rods pull straight out - threads are worn right out. I see there are Helicoil repair kits out there - I just have to measure to see what size inserts I need and see if I can buy the inserts to fit.

I think helicoils are the way to go...I`m sure you can get them in that size...
