Just spotted this on Gumtree in Australia:

http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/woodcroft/percussion-drums/1960-s-star-tama-drum-kit/1063858563

It's a Star kit, but alas he has stuck Pearl logos on it????

This smelt dodgy to me the second i saw the ad. I reckon its a rewrap and if that kit is actually over 50 years old then I will cancel my VDF account.

That is most definitely NOT an all original kit.. That's a rewrap.. Second, the seller obviously put vintage Pearl badges on the bass and tom for some reason negating the purpose of selling a "vintage Star" drumkit .. They did have lugs like that but the fact that there are two different badges but same lugs all around means that it was obviously rewrapped ..500 is way too step for a rewrapped MIJ kit that is obviously not original..

I would hold out for something original and for less money..

Hi all,

I actually just bought this kit. I have been in contact with Ralf from Star-drums.de and we have identified it as an early 70s kit. Yes, it is not all original, the bass drum hoops and claws for example were installed by the seller.

However, the pearl badges are a mystery and were stuck on by one of the previous owners for some strange reason.

I end up getting the kit for $400, and it sounds great. Very happy with it and I intend on getting it back in better shape, though I am okay with it it not being original.
