Justin -- great to hear about the New Speed. It's a special sort of treat for a special class of weirdos. But they ARE cool! Today I am in the process of stripping paint froma Leedy XL. ONE ball bearing in the rocker. I mean, ONE ball, a little bigger than a BB. Wha/

As for the SK, not much...depends on what you'd like to do. Get in touch when you're ready to go and I'd be glad to work with you. If we are using yours to start with, then $ depends on what you decide.

Thanks!

Bill, what did you use to lubricate the springs after they were cleaned and reassembled?

I used a synthetic silicone high temp grease. This day and age, almost any grease will be about nine thousand times better than Ludwig Co used!

For me, the most important part of that spring/plunger reassembly is the cleanliness of the inside of the tower. If you've tried it, you know how rock-hard-cruddy the old grease can be. And the plungers, too. I'm really careful to be sure they are clean and SMOOTH. I wet sand them down to about 220 grit or more.

I think if those pieces are spotless, any good grease will do. Just don't use what Ludwig used in the 50's!

Sounds great Bill! I cleaned everything out of the Speed King, sat everything overnight in Dubya-D 40. Cleaned everything pretty good. I didnt sand anything down on mine though.... I put wheel bearing grease inside the caps, but only put some Hoppes gun oil down inside the towers. I need to go back and grease the inside springs as well. It works a ton better, but I know I need to add grease now, instead of oil to the towers.
