Right as I was typing the title for this post, I realized: "What the H@!! do you call that?" Anyway, on old snare stands, the tubing-like material that isolates the drum from the stand; it's often beat/crumbling/missing. I'm sure I could just slip some hardware store clear vinyl on there; or coat the ends in Plasti-dip; but what about keeping the stand factory-original? Anybody have a good source for these in white, black, red... See below. Thanks.
Source for snare basket insulator tubing Last viewed: 1 day ago
Not sure but what about heat shrink? You could put it on the arms and using a heat source (hair dryer etc) it melts down onto the arms. I use it a lot for electrical wiring but you can get thicker stuff that might work. Just a idea.
love the red insulated stand. ive got a wfl like it that I am using right now. the insulation on those is identical to the ribbed material that they used for some of the brushes. doubt that we will find any of that. ive read about drummers using surgical tubing for this purpose though.

That red ribbed hose reminds me of lab class back in school. It was the same style we used on bunson burners. Used to use the pure gum hose but it broke easy and the red ribbed stuff replaced it. There is the same style hose sold now but it's reinforced inside for gas use and the likes. Just too thick. If you find a source let us know!
Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.

When I first wrote this post, I kinda assumed somebody would answer back: "I get it from XXX and it's $3/foot..." Didn't really think it was unobtainium. I've started seriously looking myself, but haven't found anything close. Might be, we're all SOL! Oh well.
Thanks for bringing this up. I have been looking for the shorter pieces for Rogers sts tite snare stands. No luck so,far.
I always thought of that rubber stuff as the same way they seal a wine bottle cork by dipping it and letting it harden.

Searching for red ribbed rubber hose will get you some strange results. This looks close but I think in inner dia is just not large enough. I'd think maybe 1/2" ID would do but don't see it listed. This looks like the correct type of hose though maybe?? LOL

It's not 'pretty' like the black or red stuff, but I've used clear plastic tubing for some time. You can get it at any (well, most any) hardware store. It does yellow after a bit, but it's cheap. I put some on an old Rogers 'Buck Rogers' snare stand a few years ago and was surprised when it actually looked better yellowed - on that stand.
