Sorry it has taken so long to write back oddball but I just got around to taking the rest of this thing apart. Believe it or not I can't really see the snare beds on this thing. If they are there they are very very slight. Kinda crazy the more I look at it.

Congratulations, for forty clams, you scored big time, as the parts alone (particularly the hoops) are collectively worth three of four times that sum.

As someone already mentioned, the finish (in and out) is not original. The reinforcement rings were the three-ply era (which was followed by the no re-ring six-ply era), so rings is not that unusual since they made them this way until about 67 or so (I think). Also, bear in mind that the shells were made in advance and the drums were finished, drilled, and assembled to order, so they could've still had some three-ply shells lying about well after the period I reference.

I don't have an answer to the vent hole questions other than to offer that mine doesn't have one above (or below) the strainer either.

ive got a complete drum in this series. has shell issues. there was a perfect bare shell on ebay about a year ago that I let slip by. seems like it was the one in the above post as far as wrap. neat looking!

Thanks for the extra input Frankie and Mlayton! Love the wrap on that one Frankie. Are the snare beds on your snares hard to see?

... if you ask me, the snare strainer has been the parallel stainer. this has been removed and a new (still origina sonor) strainer has been installed at 90° to the side. all other holes have been filled wich you can't see on the Picture because of a) new wrap and b) the pain in the shell. just my 2 Cent!

I think you may be right on that one Sonorfan. I tried removing whatever this veneer outer wrap is and it is not wanting to come off at all. I have heated it up with my heat gun a few times and the whole damn thing nearly catches on fire. I've got some of the re-wrap off but knowing the shell is probably been re-drilled a few times may just take the parts and look for a stripped sonor shell to put em on. If I can't find that I will probably just sell the parts to buy parts I need for other projects.

Hi, let me know if you want to part it out. I could use a strainer.

Thanks, Gary. sonor13@sbcglobal.net
