if I had a real nice 70s Slingerland maple kit with an awesome 20" kick and I had the edges resanded flat and recut to original specs? There is definitly a little warping going on.
So would it be bad...
I think if you are improving them because they are in bad shape and can't be tuned then its just a personal call.
Nothing wrong withit. Just be sure to make any modifications done known to buyers if you decide to sell it.
Did the mod improve the sound and tuning ability of the drums,or was there a problem getting a good sound out of them from the get go?.
I generally agree with the,"the're your drums,do what you want, but some things should be left alone. If the shells are out of round, and the bearing edges make the drums unplayable, then it's not a big sin,to do the edges,so they can sing again
I just wouldn't deviate from the original edge specs, because, that will change the sound of the drums.
It also make a difference as to who does the work.Precision does really nice work, recutting a bearing edge,on vintage drums.
Just my 2 cents.

If the shells are out of round, you can put them back in round and you don't have to re-do the edges.
