snare wires Last viewed: 4 days ago
Puresound are great, I would highly recommend them. Congrats on the snare!

I really love the Pearl standard snappy snares- they are the cheapest and still are very pro level- I like thinner wires and the Pearls serve me the best- I have them on almost 20 drums and have a bunch of other brands wires sitting on the shelf. I think Puresounds look great but are too stiff for my sound- I like something more responsive at low volume.

If you watch ebay for awhile there's a seller (stickaerobics) that frequently sells the period correct Ludwig snare wires that have the plastic ends with the patent number. I still have the originals on my Supra and they sound great.

PureSound Blasters are too stiff for me, too, but I like PureSound Custom wires. I've got a set of 16-strand Customs on my old Slingerland and they sound fantastic, even at low volumes.
I just happen to have a few sets of snare wires on the table in front of me, including a Pearl S-022 and PureSound Customs, both 20-strand. (I tried them both on the old Slingerland I mentioned above before finding a perfect match for the drum in the 16-strand PureSound Customs.) The Pearl and PureSound Custom wires seem pretty comparable, but believe it or not, the Pearl wires are just a tiny bit stiffer than the Customs. Without testing both sets on a given drum, I can't say which is more responsive at low volumes, but I'd guess they wouldn't be too different in that regard. The Pearl wires are about 1/4" narrower, so it's possible that each set of wires might be a better fit for some drums.
They're both good wires and with a price tag under ten bucks, the Pearls are a definitely a bargain. But getting back to the original question, I don't know which would be better on Pete's Supra. ;)

Hmmm....My supra still has its original wires on it and those have metal ends. I had an acrolite with the plastic ends and didn't think they sounded as good as the wires on my supra. If you can find them, go for NOS metal end Ludwig snare wires, I doubt you will be disappointed.
