Hi Guys,

Got another question and or comment. I am realizing that trying to collect vintage salvaged sets, seems to be very scarce an expensive, ( people in WNC are very attached to their stuff or think it is worth a fortune). I have only been into this collecting thing for several months, but does it seem that vintage drums sets are hard to come by, especially Slingerland, Noble and Cooley, Leedy? I have even looked at a set of Ludwig Vistalites Sunday, bass, 2 toms, 1 floor tom, in very bad shape, the guy wanted $3500. Crazy......Sorry, back to my question..., Do you all feel that with limited monies to spend, is collecting snares a better way to direct my interest, and starting to collect , with say $300 - $500. range what would be your advise on which one, Slingerland Radio King ( love those), Ludwig, Noble Cooley, Leedy, Pearl, Tama ? I am really confused. Can you guys help? Thanks as always....Eye Ball

Are you the person who has been running all the ads in craigslist for salvage and vintage drums? People are attached to anything vintage and aren't just going to give them away for a song.Also I know all the serious collectors in WNC and they no me. We have the area very well canvased. We also use and have multiple outlets for vintage drums, I am also a musician/ performing drummer who knows a lot of other musicians and drummers who also are good contacts for instruments.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Yep,

I ran one ad, and all of a sudden, all of these started popping up, day after day. I have run across a few drum deals in the last couple of weeks, but I really have found out that this is not the way to go.

I'm sorry, if I am offending anyone , just love drums have been playing since I was 14, ( 63 now ), and wanted to buy and collect a few of the past drums I wanted when I was young, but could not afford. I won,t contribute any more, as it seems as this is a elite club that I am not able to understand or afford. Thanks again, for the help in the past, I will not bother you guys again...Bucky

Bucky no one is offended. I answered one of the ads don't know if it was you ? I have two late 70s ludwig drums I offered at the price I paid for them, The poster declined.as Mike C stated at the price point your in that is going to be a tough road to hoe. I get drums in your price point but this is through a network That i've built up over years. Keep searching you'll find some,

Bucky, don't give up on vintage drum collecting or on VDF. Like any collection it just takes time and vigilance. Keep your eyes open and be ready to act quickly when the right one shows up. The guys here on VDF are not "elite" and will certainly help in your quest.

I started a snare collection a few years back. I may go months without adding anything.

I would say collecting snare drums is a good idea, kits are always more and I've seen radio kings on eBay for just slightly over 500 dollars. Go for it , but don't go mental and overspend!!;)

Agree w/ Mike C.: 3-5 bills is not too much for a "Collectable" (Wow, such a word!) snare...

I.M.H.O., If you have your "last 500 bucks", the best snare to buy is a Pre-serial / "First Gen" Acrolite....Cool1

Someday these could worth much more..

Although, you can make a whole pro-succesfull carrier, be a rock star and get alot of fun with a $3 - $5 range snare, such as:

Acros - Supras - Pionners - Brass Slingys, etc.Clapping Happy2LoLoLoLoLoLoLoLo

Try mij drums in those price points

Although u can start out with some nice pioneer snares and clubdate Kits also odd drums and try some late 70's early 80's drums yard sales etc you never know when you run across a diamond in the rough. Good luck
