My new (to me) 1965 Slingy's came yesterday and I spent the evening with them. I'm not going to go into the whole thing, but I am stunned how great they sound. The kit had some old (Small logo) Remo Ambassadors on the batters and they sounded great.

I had two brand new coated ambassadors which I then put on. After stretching, etc the 16 sounded great. The 12 sounded more muted...I spent a half hour with teh drum and it just sounde dmuch darker than with the older head. I put the older head back on and it sounded great again.

I cannot say how old this Ambassador it, but is there a difference in the new ones from the old ones? It was like comparing a 2 ply to a single ply difference. If so, I need to figure out how to find something like these old ones for that smaller tom...that drum sounds unreal.
