Slingerland WMP 12x20 Bass Drum Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Hello, I'm brand new to this forum, so please go easy on me! I have a few 60's drum kits, one Ludwig and one Slingerland, both inherited. I'll never part with the Luddy, but I'm trying to learn more about the Slingerland kit so that I can be a more intelligent seller. Anyway, it is a 4-piece WMP kit with a 12x20 bass. To be honest, I haven't seen many of those around. Is that something that's rare, or would bring any attention if I were to sell this kit? The only thing I've found in the vintage catalogs is a "jobbing" kit, but the bass-mounted ride cymbal mount (L-shaped) is not like the ones on the "jobbing" kit as far as I can tell. Any information that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated! Also, don't know if this is asking for too much, but what would be the value of something like this (sold as a whole kit)?

Thanks & Cheers!

It's actually a double tension model..I'm puzzled! I'll upload a pic when I get back to my office.

the reason I asked was because most of the 12" Depth that I've seen were the single tension models, your drum is legit by the way.

there's a 12 x 20 in the 1959 catalog for the "2N Jobbing outfit" with 16 lugs, however, the tom mount attaches to the rim and the cymbal stand slides into the bass drum.

What are the other sizes? The sad thing is Slingerlands don't bring as much cash as the other big three (Gretsch, Ludwig and Rogers)!!

I always wanted a 12" deep bass drum for the small venues I play, interested in any trades ??

Thanks

I have a 1951 version with the mahogany/poplar/mahogany shell, hoop mounted spurs. A fantastic bass drum!

Never play it the same way once.

Not much help on placing a value on it i'm afraid, but there are some 12" kicks around. Some jazz players (and even a rocker like Ginger Baker) still use 12" kicks. That's a pretty drum, you shouldn't have a lot of trouble selling it.

Thanks for all the replies! Unfortunately, I wouldn't be into any trades at this point. I've recently started playing the steel drums and need the money to out towards one that is currently being made for me. I'd love to keep these drums, but have to prioritize the toys!

The toms are 8x12 and 14x24. There is a matching snare that has a split that I noticed in the finish, but not the shell. I know that will hurt the value, but I'm hoping to he apparentl rarity of this bass drum size will spark some serious interest. Not looking to get a fortune obviously, but I'll see what I can get.

I have a 12 x 22 Slingerland bass drum. It is virgin with 10 lugs on each side.

I think a Tom attached to the hoop? Had 2 cymbal mounts and a third mount on the batter side. I guess for cowbell, wood block. I never found one like this in any catalog. I rewraped it and used the 3 mounts on my floor Tom shell for the legs.

It sounds great though. Nice and deep. I think it sounds as good as any of the deeper bass drums I own.
