Slingerland Vent Badge Location on Snare?

Loading...

Sort of new to the vintage Slingerland group, so I apologize if this is common knowledge. I have noticed on most vintage Slingerland snares, the vent badges are between the 2 lugs to the left of the throw-off.

However, with some Chicago badge drums, I have seen the vent badge between the 2 lugs to the right of the throw-off. Was this a Chicago anomaly?

Thanks!

There were several different layouts during different eras. The layout you are talking about occurred from late 1960 thru early 1961. Badge was placed one panel to the right of the throw off and the tone control was 180 degrees across from the badge. Chicago badge snares without the looped "S". The most common layout during the 60's and early 70's is left to right; tone control, badge, throw off.

I didn't think there was any hard and fast rule. Here's mine 1958,60 and 65.

Nice. All great wraps. You should post some more pictures in the "Drum Image Gallery". An expected layout for '58 is badge, throw off, tone control.

Some more challenges for our Slingy guru's

I picked up a 3-line Slingerland Chrome Snare but not sure of the year (badge 215432) and while trying to figure it out, it does not match the pictures from the catalogues based on badge and muffler placement.

Then I read this post and now here's some more fun . . .

8-lug snare and the vent-hole/badge are 2 panels to the left of the throw and the muffler is 2-panels to the right of the throw.

Any insight?

OK, mid seventies, '75 plus or minus. That is the correct layout for that era according to Dr.CJW. Badge two panels left of throw off and tone control 180 degrees across from badge. TDR's and 5-ply shells had a different layout. Catalog pictures were sometimes slow to show changes. '79 catalog shows your layout.
