Help! My son and I are restoring a Slingerland Super Sound King snare drum. Does someone know where we can purchase the dual strainer system for the super Sound King snare? Tried to upload photos but was not working properly.

That may be rather hard to find.

There is a 6.5" Super Sound King on ebay right now for $350, although simply listed as a Slingerland 6.5 snare.

I don't see them often, and the snare assembly alone I see even less.

Hopefully someone here has one.

GMB, in my searchings I have yet to find any parts for the Sound King snare.

I scored a Sound King with that same complicated snare mechanism in New Orleans. It is incomplete though, missing one of the rollers and the knurled knob/hook that holds the snares.

Is $350 even in the ballpark for this snare?

I have not even seen a 6.5" Sound King (Zoomatic strainer) with a black and brass badge for sale in awhile. They usually have the later black and silver `70s badge.

A Super Sound King (parallel strainer) with a black and brass badge, and in the 6.5" depth is much less common than the 5" depth.

They probably made a lot of them, they just do not show up for sale lately.

$350 is more than I would want to pay, but not out of the ballpark. If it was for sale for $250, it would have sold already.

Matt and King Louie thanks for response and info...i may need to look at that one on e-bay a little closer...without seeing the butt end of the stainers, it's hard to tell. I had a feeling the parts were not going to come easy for this...the information on these snares is sometimes conflicting. King Louie, I have a 5"x 14"...what do you have? how do you like it? I also have a 6.5" x 14" 1979 Slingerland snare (COB) with the zoomatic strainer and it just sounds great! this is why I want to get this other up and going. I also have two (2) mid-70's 12"x 15" Slingerland marching snares that need some TLC...those can wait a little while.

I have a black/silver badged 6.5". I tried to salvage it as a useable drum by removing the portion that holds the rollers and threading snare cord through the two screw holes. It resulted in moderate success, the snare core that I used slipped quite a bit.

When I did have it dialed in though I got a loud rock crack out of it. I'll be it would sound killer with the concert strainer all setup and dialed in.

I may just put it on the classified section, I didn't realize they were hard to find. I'd much rather get it to someone who will appreciate it and get myself a nice, simple Krupa COB snare.
