Can anyone tell me if this finish is original? Should I restore it or leave it as is? I also have a bass drum with the matching finish.[Attachment: 30105]<

It appears to be the original finish, and YES! I would LEAVE IT ALONE! They are worth far more original, rather than "restoring" them.....Rolling Bombers are probably the most valuable of all the Slingerland drums out there.

Maybe so VM.....but I still wouldn't mess with them. I'd leave them be.

That drum looks to have been painted assembled. There`s paint on the tacks, head rim and the cut line around the lugs shows. There appears to be a turquoise color bleeding through and under the chips !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

When I got the drums they were painted some weird green color even the lugs and hoops. I thought they were just plain old radio kings with metal lugs. I did not even know there was factory hand carved wood lugs until the paint was removed. The history on these drums is just awesome.I'am still in the process of carefully removing whats left of the green paint, thats why you can still see little pieces of it in the picture. Under neath the paint was 5 small painted saxaphone players painted in between the lugs, the bass drum has the same pattern but is ballroom dancers. Between 1942 to 1945 Did Slingerland ever paint them like this?can anyone help me?
