Just purchased a nice 1961 Hollwood Ace snare.The problem is tha rapid throwoff.It wont stay locked.After a few whacks it disengages.Is there a fix for this or should I just find another throwoff?

Does yours have the center cork piece in it? like this one on my drum?

Same strainer as my Shelbyville snare. Originally, the "cork piece" was a short piece of surgical rubber tubing. I replaced mine with a spring and it works quite well. You definitely need something in there to keep it engaged.
