Slingerland questions

Loading...

I am new memeber of the forum. I have been reading for a couple of weeks. I recently decided to start drumming after a 45+ yr hiatus. I played as a 11-12yr, just for fun. Never very good. At 57 yo, maybe I can get better. I just purchased a Slingerland bd and mounted tom (hoop mounted). I have some questions. First, there is a small attachment next to the bd badge. Appears to be an attachment for cymbal arm, woodblock, etc. I have seen something similar on Radio Kings. Not sure if it is original. Second, the bd badge is a brass/black Chicago. No badge on tom. However, when I examine the inside, the grommet looks as if it may have been removed. So, I am thinking maybe it may have been rewapped, or the badge replaced. Both the bd and tom have date stamps plus P-040 stamped inside. Can't make out the year. The shells look like photos I have seen of 60s Slingerlands. Do they look like late 50s/early 60s? I have included some photos. My camera crapped out before I could get more. I can take more if needed. Thanks in advance. This is a cool site.

Welcome to the forum! Welcome

The finish is original and toms didn't have badges until the mid 60's. It is possible that an attempt was made to remove the badge, but then discontinued. That grommet is original Slingerland and the badge shows no evidence of being removed. The black/brass Chicago badge was used in the late 50's.

As mentioned in the previous post, the extra mount is not original, but the wing screw appears to be a Ludwig. Ludwig used these mounts for bass drum legs and cymbal holders, so it's safe to assume that a cymbal rod was employed, most likely for a splash cymbal.

Welcome back to drumming after your long hiatus... and have fun!

More photos and questions. Is the tom hoop mount original from factory? What was the time line for internal mufflers? None on these 2. Not drilled for them. There is some separation of the reinforcement hoop on the to. How best to repair? Thanks for the responses so far.

Badge is from the late '50s and that cymbal mount is correct for a 3 piece set from that era.
