Slingerland Identification Help - Great Craigslist Find!! Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

I just picked up a 4 piece Slingerland set off the local Craigslist. They are fairly dirty but the shells and the wrap seem in excellent shape. 22" Kick, 16" Floor Tom, and 12" and 13" rack toms I believe, unfortunately the snare was not with the set... Anyway, from what I can determine with online research they should date from the mid to late 70's (all serial numbers are in the 333,000 - 334,000 range. Color is the white pearl. If you any of you more knowledgable folks could let me know if I am close or not with the above assessment it would be much appreciated. Also, would be interested in rough estimate value ranges. One pic is below, will try to do some cleaning and post some more tomorrow.

The set also came with a low-level ludwig "standard snare" (pic2). Any idea on how to date these? sounds like the serial number dating doesn't work for these?... The number on this drum is 2655. Estimated value?

Sorry for all the questions just like to get some idea of what I am getting myself into before I spend all the time cleaning and putting new heads on these.

Thanks

Looks like a keeper to me! I have a mid 70's kit as well and it's definitely a winner. The luddy snare is as well. If I recall correctly the Standard series has the same shell as the top of the line Luddys. Just a hardware difference.

Please correct me if I am wrong folks.

Started taking apart the bass drum and cleaning all the parts.

The finish is in great shape with no fading.

$100! Came with stands and cymbals too. 18" Zildjian Medium Ride and 14" New Beat Hats, no cracks, mid to late 70's I think. Also a more beat up Sonor cymbal + cowbell, tambourine, woodblock, two remo roto-toms, old ludwig kick pedal, pretty much only good for parts. Slingerland hi-hat stand and cymbal stand, fairly rusted and a Tama boom stand.

Both the kick and 2nd rack tom are missing 1 hoop, but all the lugs are there. Have spent the last 4 hours taking apart the kick drum entirely and giving everything a good soak and scrub, some chrome corrosion and a bit of rust here and there but cleaning up real nice. The shells and finish appear to be in excellent shape.

Any idea what this kit is worth. Probably will sell the cymbals and hope to raise enough funds for new heads and a bottom hoop for the 2nd rack tom at least.

Ive found those cymbals go for around $100 no matter what size they are. $100 for a set of hats, $100 for a crash, $100 for a ride....as long as they are in nice shape in terms of no keyhole/cracks. Obviously if you get up to 22 or bigger that pricing scheme changes.

Sell the beat up hardware as a lot for $50 or something...

$250 should buy you a hoop, some heads, and you might even be able to keep your $100 investment. Nice one!

Oh yeah...probably get $80-$125 for that snare too if you aren't into that. You're coming out WAY ahead on this free drum set!!!

If you complete the kit Id say its worth $500-$750 right now depending on the right buyer.....more realistically $750 if you have a krupa or something with it in terms of a snare.

Do you sell the ride or the new beat? I could be interested in them!

Thanks for the info guys. Looks like the 2nd rack tom is also missing the lug screws. Is there a good place to get these..? or will the current standard thread work?

Also, don't think I am going to bother fixing up the snare, been working all day on just the Kick and the first rack tom and they are looking great, but I already have a 70's acrolite snare so am just not motivated to mess with this one. Will probably try to sell it at a reasonable price and let someone else put the elbow grease into it. Same with the two roto-toms, don't really have any use for those.

Planning to keep the kit though, sold my full sized kit a few months ago and have been gigging with a mini kit I put together (carries in one-load), you can check it out here, but have been looking for more of a vintage full-size kit like this and it is in good enough shape I can't bring myself to part it out, got heads ordered today!

Here is a link to pic of the kick all finished, sans head and hoop.

Slingerland Kick - Cleaned

Oh and .andrea. , I will for sure be selling the Ride, and potentially the New Beats. There is some light keyholing on the ride. Shoot me a PM and I will get some pics linked up.
