A Slingerland GK 1N kit is about as iconic as they get. A really nice one just sold for only $800 on eBay, complete with matching snare drum! Check item 201566818720 for another great GK 1N, which has the matching single-ply Artist snare drum. I've attached one picture from the auction. A bit pricey, but still pretty nice!

For price, I would go with an early 70's kit. I have bought complete 70's kits for $4-700. The 60's kits can go for more especially if they are in above average condition. The shells are three ply with re-enforcement rings. If you want to jump in the pool at the deep end, go with a 40's Radio King kit. A four piece kit with matching snare will go in the $1700-$3000+ range depending on condition. Slingerland drums are currently under valued in my opinion. But as a buyer, you should be thrilled.

It isn't hard to find a "chocolate milk"(60's) 12,13,16,22 w/chrome snare for under $1,000. Look at GC's used section.

There are so many to choose from. The one from Kansas City seems nice, and a good price. I am looking for a 2R Modern Solo, or 50N Rocker, my problem is that I want it in Sparkle Orange Pearl. Mark is helping me, I would listen very carefully to the guys on this forum, very knowledgeable , experienced, and will help any way they can.

Good luck on your search....Bucky
