Slingerland Badge Question Last viewed: 1 day ago

JAMES!!!!!!!!!!

It's your fault! I knew this would happen!

There is a very strange "logic" to this which says if you don't see it, it don't exist. Bit like the moon...

The source of my evidence is my own kit.

13x9 serial 21336 date stamped August 1963

16x16 serial 21355 date stamped September 1963

22x14 bass serial 21379 date stamped September 1963

And before anyone says this is a lash up I got it as a kit in 1964 aged 17.

Obviously I have the most unique Slingy in the world! But I have seen other examples of badged '63 toms and I would appeal to anybody else who can show some evidence of existance, and not "evidence" of non existance, to come forward.

Thanks for posting that selection of Slingerland kits, all gorgeous! But clearly not worth the same as a badged tom kit!

I may have opened a little can of worms here and I apologise if anyone is upset by this, on what is a really most informative and helpful forum.

Best regards,

You are the first to post here with that information.

And this cannot be an absolute that you stated, since there are lots of '63 date stamped toms around without badges.

Previous to April '64 they were on all drums in a kit since serials began in Oct '62.

Hi,

If you go to this you will see what I mean.

http://bristol.gumtree.com/bristol/86/60266786.html

WEBMASTER, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DELETE THIS LINK, as it applies to a set for sale at the moment. I have no connection with this sale, and put it up here for your info. If someone more computer literate than I am can copy the photos without sales contacts, that would be better. Also can I ask people to respect the seller and not bombard him with requests for photos etc.

Kevins, I think I misled you with my post a little. I did not mean that EVERY KIT produced in this time frame was fully badged - obviously! But there is no doubt that during this time frame Slingerland did produce kits in which EVERY DRUM was badged. This is one. I have another.

Let me state again that I do not wish to be contentious in any way or argue trivialities, but I think I may have discovered something here that would be important to Dr Wenk and I will leave it to the experts to find out more information, and perhaps include it in the SUPERB Slingerland section of this highly informative VDF site.

Best Regards.

ps Rich K, thanks for trying!

No offense, but without serial numbers that place it in the '64 range, what use is this?

And with all the mods going on here.......

The floor looks like it may be a chocolate milk interior, which would put it in '66 anyway.

I'm as open minded as the next guy, and maybe more so, but I need something more definitive than this.

Keep on bringing some examples, I love a mystery !!

I see Ludwig bass drum spur/brackets......so when the guy was drilling, why not add a badge or two to the toms?

I think there will always be strange anomalies in this business. The Dr's work is a tiny piece of a much larger volume of work. From a historians perspective you just can't put it all in.

There would need to be a lot of examples to make something part of factual history. These examples would need to be studied with very detailed photos or in person and then documented.

It is safe to say that he has all of this covered and documented already.

David,

The voice of reason! Thank you very much.

I hope I have been able to contribute something interesting to the Slingerland history, and as an owner of one of these anomolies I look forward to any further information that Dr Wenk can find.

Best regards,
