I've had quite a few of the 804 hi hat stands over the years and rebuilt all of them! You are correct that many have had allot of use and do wear at the point you show. I have a spare complete rod and just checked it out. It seems to have just a VERY SMALL amount of wear at only the lower rivet. Still has some old grease on it, but the rods themselves are in VG condition. Let me know if you would like this part. I'd be happy to send it for just the cost of shipping.

Wow Mark, thats incredibly kind of you. I guess my other option is to try and replace those rivets with ones that will fit more snug. But theres no guarantee I won't just mess things up more. In your many 804 rebuilds, have you ever replaced those rivets?

Never had to replace the rivets. I have a feeling that it is the hole that wears and not the rivets. Buying an 804 is always a crap-shoot. Never really know what you've got until you're able to evaluate close up.

Update on the 804 rod situation. Thanks Mark for sending me that extra rod/other parts. With an extra rod on hand, I gained the confidence to try and fix (or potentially destroy) the rod that came with my stand. I drilled out the rivets, then widened the holes in the metal parts to 5/32", since the original 1/8" holes were probably a little bit worn/widened over time. I then popped in a 5/32" pop rivet - very snug fit, I had to hammer it in. The result is a very snug connection, no give whatsoever. It's still retains that swivel function for breaking the stand down, but its also tight enough that the rod can stand up straight on its own, and won't flimsily flop all over the place when you remove that upper pipe. Finally I had to hammer the ends of the rivets down so they didn't stick out too far and make connection with the inside of the upper pipe. Very satisfied, this stand is as good as new right now. (Also sorry I didn't put this in Restoring Vintage Drums forum, if a moderator wants to move this topic over that'd probably be for the best)

Glad you were able to repair your pull rod! Yes, having those extra rods available to you does give you confidence to repair the original, so that, even if you don't succeed with the original, you have some extras to get you back to operating condition.
