I saw this one too. It does seem a little spendy to me.. But that seems to be the case for most artist series snares on ebay right now! Not sure what the deal is with the artist snares and the fact that people are trying to get between $400 and $600 for these, when honestly, the only difference I've found between those and the hollywood aces are the zoomatic with the extended butt... (granted, the zoomatic is much cooler than the rapid strainer). I'm not familiar with the BR model though... I'm guessing the only diff is the 5" vs the 5.5"... I do know that I picked up a really nice artist last month for $250... Great snares, just don't think they're worth more than a few hundred dollars.

That, in perfect condition, shouldn't be worth more than 400, at least in my world. A beautiful drum, but not at that price, esp. with those edges.

From Fuse

I have to agree with everyone on here. I personally love all things Slingerland, and the only drums I own are Slingerland. But this snare is way overpriced, especially considering that it's missing a piece on the strainer. As well, it's an early 70s drum, and to me, those just aren't as valuable as the older ones. BTW, weren't some of the older ones single ply?Anyway, they're great drums, but this one is definitely overpriced.

Yes.........OVERPRICED.

I too like(love) all things Slingerland but that's over the top!

Then I guess I should dust my couple off and try and move them for that kinda "shake".

Buddy did play an Artist and they are GREAT sounding snares!

Yes, they originally were solid maple.

I have one of the one ply maple artist snares and they are worth the coin. I wouldn't sell mine for any dollar amount. But I wouldnt pay half of what they are asking with that bearing edge! I would have to play/hear it first.

Couple items of interest on this particular model snare drum:

'Tis true... Buddy DID play the #153 "Artist" model when he went over to Slingerland in 1968.. however .. that didn't last but approx. two years.. because .. by LATE 1969 Buddy was already playing the NEW #177 4X14 Buddy Rich w/Zoomatic, although the #153 "Artist".. without the name Buddy Rich .. was still available. This is tricky because of the catalog pics/specs which were NOT updated by the 1970 catalog, although the #177 4X14 Buddy Rich WAS featured on it's own page. There was also the #176 4X14 Buddy Rich in COW which interestingly, Buddy preferred over the WMP model. He played the COW 4X14 much more than the WMP model. Anyway...

The "problem" with the drum in this auction is that it is too late to be the "Buddy Rich Artist", although only in language if you will. It IS the same drum technically, and Buddy DID also play the plied model as well. But by the date of this particular drum, Buddy had already switched over to the 4X14 Buddy Rich, and really never played the "Artist" again.. and .. his name was dropped from the description and the drum simply became the "Artist" until it was discontinued.

Morning boys -

I've one of these on ebay dated '66-70 that is in incredible condition @ $400 + 20 shipping. I am aware that 400 is at the high end of things but have seen others of lesser caliber sell for that or more. I am not huge on Slingerland {if I'm correct pre-60's is where the good stuff's at} - so I had to learn about the different shells as I've gone along. Yes, it's 3-ply w/ chocolate milk interior - not single-ply - & has everything original & shows very little wear. So, maybe I'm wrong, but the condition calls for 400.

The thing with ebay, for me, is that so many buyers want high quality equip. for next to nothing (I can't tell you how many times I get offers - "low ball" would be a nice way of saying this - for percussion). I've even started rare, very fine equip. @ .99c with no bids until 5 days in. I'm amazed when an item is listed for say $x but it's too high for anyone to bid; but when seller relists at $.99 it very often exceeds the previous set price.

I don't even know what I'm trying to get at ....

Hobbs!...

Thing to do here, is to supply a LINK to your eBay auction, and/or pics! Just a description.. ( while it was nicely worded! ) .. won't cut it. At the very least, the auction/item number so the members here can find your drum!

Sorry T -

I considered the other IV (other than the one hooked up to VFD!) would be for ebay, & anyone interested could easily look it up. Here's the bay link -

Nice drum, I think it's late 1970 by the serial number and badge.
