From Ickybaby

They aren't museum quality, the non-matching snare has a Dunnet throw and butt (able to add with no additional holes drilled), the 13 and 14 toms used to have tacked heads, there's some paint chipping, and the 16" floor tom is later than the rest of the kit.But I get to drive a big band with these and they sound incredible. Maybe not the best but definitely my favorite drums of all time.2 of the guys in the trumpet section say they can feel air on the back of their legs being moved by that 28" bass. AWESOME!

A couple of these drum looks very familiar !! :)

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Badge on Kick and snare dates between 51-53?

My first 'real' vintage kit and I'm stoked :)

Here's my 5.5x14 snare. It has absolutely great sound!

It belonged to Barrett Deems.

On Monday June 23, 2014 I was lucky enough to see a classified that was posted a couple hours earlier for "a old drumset". I replied to the posting and was invited to come see the drums for sale(110 mile trip one way). To my surprise I found a super nice Radio King 4 piece kit in WMP with some hardware and cymbals.

I could not believe I found the drummers holy grail.

The gentleman selling the drum kit had inherited them from his uncle who was a Big Band Drummer late 30's and into the 40's.

The set has some parts to be replaced and fixed, but nothing major missing, and all the shells are in perfect condition, and a slight yellowing of the wrap.

I will keep you posted on the final outcome with pictures of the restored set.

It has a 14x7 snare that by the looks dates from 1939, 13x9 tom, 14x12 tom, 28x16 bass drum, RK hihat stand, cymbal stand, bass drum pedal, and set of small hihat cymbals.

Now that's the sort of "old drumset" ad you like to stumble on. And I'm assuming the price was more than reasonable

Thanks guys.

The seller was asking a much higher number than the $850 we agreed upon.

I know that he believes I am going to bring it back to working condition, so he let it go much cheaper because of the expense of getting replacement parts and long hours of TLC.

Please help me to find 2 small cigar lugs, 1 bass drum hoop spur, 1 bass drum tension rod claw, and a bass drum hoop cymbal arm.

At that price, you damn near stoled them, regardless of the condition. What a deal!
