Verminator- I think you unfortunately got scammed. Here is the correspondence with the CL seller and the link to the posting in Maine. His set is posted in a few different New England states. He also has a few more pictures than the Ebay listing provided.

Me:

Hi I'd like to buy your Slingerland drum set. I'm in Massachusetts. When could I come see the set?

Him:

I am around this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. Let me know what you think.- Joel

Me:

Are you located in Providence, RI or Portland, Me?

Thanks

Him:

I'm in Portland Maine. If you need to do a weekday instead let me know so I can plan around my work schedule.- J

Me:

Are you aware of the fact that this same exact set, as in same exact pictures, just sold on ebay for $770. Here's the link to the "sold listing".

Him:

Yes, that was me. My first time using EBay back in April. Unfortunately I had not set a minimum bid and I couldn't change the price till the bidding was over. I appologized to the guy who thought he was getting them for 800$, it's 700$ less than I have into them. He was cool about it. Hence, Craigslist. - Joel

Me:

This auction just ended yesterday and it says the drums are being shipped from North Carolina. A fellow member of a drum forum just won the auction and is worried that he got scammed. I'm actually not interested in the set even though I do like it. I'm a big Slingerland fan and your price is within reason. I was just scoping things out since he posted a picture of the set from the Ebay listing and I recognized it from your CL listing. Sorry to make you think I was interested. I was just trying to get to the bottom of the scam. You may want to look at that Ebay listing more carefully. the auction ended Oct 6th at 5:55pm.

Him:

That's cool. I never re-listed them after April. Tell your friend it is a scam. I have the real things sitting in my apartment.

Thanks for all of the help. This forum rocks. PayPal recognized his account as a scammer and never completed the transaction. I'm going to buy a six piece sonor 3000 in Scandinavian birch instead. Thanks again guys. Don't mess with the vintagecdrum forum. We'll mess you up.

All's well that ends well. Good to hear. I hate to see someone get taken especially when it's a VDF member. I wouldn't have been any help if I hadn't done a local "Slingerland" CL search the other night. I knew I had seen that same picture of the same set elsewhere.

BTW, I also sent the "true" owner a sincere apology for misleading him. I didn't like to do that but for all I knew he could've been the scammer. I wouldn't have known without creating a false interest.

That was good of Hemi to step up like that. That's why I like this forum- lots of good folks on here.

Hopefully karma will catch up to the scammer.
