Shipping..USPS Parcel VS Priority... Last viewed: 2 days ago

Loading...

Since many of us ship via the P.O.,I thought I would throw my 2 centavos in...

USPS just had a rate increase in Jan of this year..

But, Priority Mail Flat Rate SMALL boxes with tracking have actually gone down in price.

Also, tracking is now included in Priority automatically,so that is nice, and can make a difference..

When I ship non Flat Rate,I always ask at the counter the difference between Parcel and Priority.

I shipped 4 packages this week, and 2 of them were the same price for Parcel and Prior!

Why would you elect to send something that could take 4-5 days, when for the same price ,they could get it in 2? Doesn't compute right...

Actually,Parcel would have been 85 cents MORE (each!) on the 2 boxes,as you have to pay that for tracking on Parcel !

Sometimes,Priority is only 50 cents more all told..maybe $1..but gets there much faster..

Always ask the difference before you ship!Yes Sir

Hope this helps...Chewie:

Thanks Blairndrums.... insightful and helpful as always !

As a frequent shipper, what are your best options for shipping to Europe and abroad?

Especially, entire kits which might require a box bigger than USPS is willing to take on?

Thanks

Kevin,

USPS Priority International is usually the most cost effective for international.

I use Fed Ex for most everything domestically that won't go in a USPS Priority Flat rate box. Everytime I have compared to USPS, Fed Ex came out cheaper. They're usually very fast and their tracking is actually worth a hoot.

Yep I ship a ton of stuff and local US Post Office guys are all very helpful with rates. They all know me pretty well. In many cases sending Priority is the same/less/or slightly more than parcel post. I like the tracking is included with Priority now too. Overall I've been very happy with them and prices much less than UPS/FED-EX here.

I use USPS but should try FedEx one of these days. Three day priority goes by air as opposed to truck for parcel. The only time I had a later delivery with USPS was by truck. They used the wrong truck to the wrong location. I don't think they make that mistake with airplanes as often.
