Anyone experienced a slight crack inside the tom on a vintage kit? Is this something that can be easily repaired? And would you avoid a kit all together if a tom had slight cracking inside?
Shell cracks inside toms...easy to repair? Last viewed: 1 day ago
It's not a drum I own, but one that I'm considering. The person described it as slight superficial cracking, but the tom is not of round...
It's not all that odd for 60s/70s 3ply w/rings shells to have slight cracks in the inner ply, especially close to the seem. For the most part what I've seen is usually OK, unless the crack(s) is severe enough that the inner ply is "peeling" away... but even at that carefully wood-gluing can help prevent further damage.
Yes, pictures would help!

Hey Bill, in fact it's a 60s Ludwig indeed. Since it's not my set (not yet anyway), I may not should post the photo. Anyways, let's just say the finish is right up my alley. I'll do a little more finding out with the owner, but it sounds like it's very minimal.
