Round Badge Gretsch

Loading...

I am looking for some input as to the value of the Gretsch kit (12",14",20") that I recently acquired. I've had people showing an interest in relieving me of them, including some here on the Forum.

It's my understanding that they are somewhat rare. They are missing bottom hoops and tension rods. Also missing one tom-badge (Yeah, I've seen them on Ebay for crazy money). There is some seam lift. The wrap is overall in good shape but needs cleaning.

They would probably be better off in the hands of a Jazz player, but, on the other hand I'm getting attached to them because they are REALLY nice, and I don't even know what they sound like yet!

I've got the late 50's Gretsch kit 20/12/14 with matching 5.5x14 snare in Gold Sparkle - pictured here. They're not mint but in excellent condition with one tiny cut in the floor tom finish near (not at) a reso lug = hardly noticable. I did repaint silver sealer and had the bearing edges tweaked not recut. Ray Ayotte did it for me and kept to the original intentions of the edges. Mine were appraised by Rob Cook at $2200. On the open market I may get $3k or more I'm told.

Hope this helps.

Lingontega - as-is, I'd say maybe 3K. Cleaned up, all parts replaced, etc, closer to 4K. There was a kit like yours that sold for over 5K on ebay once, but that was when 20-12-14 RB prices in general were much higher.
