I have a chance to buy a set of Rogers Timpani / Kettle drums. One is 38'', the other is 48''. I have not seen the drums, but according to the seller they are in excellent condition. I have no experience with these and was hoping someone could shed some light for me. From what I have read these drums were only made for a short while. The seller wants me to make an offer.

Sorry, I have not received any photo's yet.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

I own 7 Rogers timpani (2 29"s/1 26"/3 23"s/1 20"). They never made anything close to 38" or 48". The sizes were 29", 26", 23" and 20". Nothing over 29" was ever made.

They're great for orchestra pit work (if they're functioning properly each drum should have a full octave range) and they record very well. This means they don't quite have the heavy, dark sound needed for big symphonic stuff like Wagner, Mahler etc. but they're very useful for pretty much everything else. If you can get ones in good condition, I would recommend picking them up but better double check on those sizes!

Here's a bad picture of mine in my studio (ignore the Ludwig timps in the front):

I saw your Rogers timpani. I have aquired a Rogers Accu-sonic timpani 29" and would like to restore it. Everything works, but it is missing the fine tuning rod that extends from the rim down in front of the pedal. I'm not sure how this fastens onto the pedal to operate. Are there any diagrams, pictures of how it operates down by the pedal and are there parts avalible to make this feature operational?

Thanks

I think it depends what you need it for. if it's to really use in orchestral situations, I would certainly not buy it. But too collect, maybe it's nice

But I don't think the quality of those would be very good
