Rogers thrones - different tripod heights Last viewed: 3 days ago

Loading...

A question for the experts.

I just bought my third Rogers Sampson throne because the second one was in terrific condition - You never know what you buy via the worldwide web...

The first and the third are in excellent condition and seem to be pretty original with the old and full functionally die cast clamp. But the tripods have different heights: One is under 14" the other one has 15". When I look at the old catalogues I have the impression that the tripod of the 64 throne is a bit lower than the one on the photo (not the drawing on the previous) in the 67 catalogue. The lower one has an original Eagle sticker on the center tube. I always thought that Rogers never changed the height. Does anyone know?

Thanks for an answer and greetings from Cologne

My guess is that they must of varied a bit from batch to batch. The span of years those thrones were offered was a long time over many years.

Many batches were supplied and through 2 different companies as well. First Grossman Music and then CBS. I'm sure CBS made some change to save costs a bit. I'll post the patent for it in a few. Have to get the scanner out and plugged in. More to follow...

Wayne, Thank you very much for the kind words. I think it is safe to say that in my quest to fill in the early blanks of the Cook Rogers book I've done my homework. Also safe to say that I like Rogers...a lot!

The bag fat binder up top contains Joe Thompsons 43 patents. There are 2 binders in the stack of NJ Farmingdale Rogers alone. This is what I've gathered aside from not taking a picture of the original Rogers catalogs and Grossman Music counter catalogs from the 1930s to the 80s.

I appreciate your last post. I will continue to help when I can. Thanks again!

Wayne, Thanks again. I'll gladly share what I have learned from all this old paper. It's good to have the paper to back up your words or thoughts about a Rogers something. Started making those binders to organize it all about 7 yrs back. Been interested in Rogers for 20+ yrs by now.

Before I can/will put out an e book or real book on the early Rogers/Grossman history/Joe Thompson history I need to find an ad or catalog for the war time wood lug drums. The drums have surfaced in a hand full of snare drums and some toms and floor toms have passed me by in my searches as well. Sometimes the drums come before the paper that explains them. Sometimes reverse.

That is what I am missing to say what hasn't been said before or documented in print about the big Rogers picture of the history of the companys early OH days and transition from NJ-OH.

There may not have been any paper during this time. I do feel strongly that there is a Grossman mailer or "Bulletin" as he(Uncle Henry) called them to surface. Until then I can't put "out there" my thoughts that will tweak the Rogers community silly about the history of the company.

As for being called a crazy obsessed Rogers nut, librarian or historian I welcome that. As I quote Mr. Dangerfield, "I've been thrown out of more important places by more important people." Call me what you like- I'm sure I've been called worse at some point in time. lol!

I thank you again kind sir!
