Rogers kit '61-'72 Last viewed: 3 days ago

hello friends. i just wanted to start by saying that this website is phenomenal, keep up the great work. it has been so helpful and interesting to me and my friends.

ok now to my question. i have an old rogers kit which i LOVE but im curious to find its history. it has a 24" kick drum 13" and 14" rack toms and a 16" floor tom, i never had the snare drum. all wood shells with a grey and white speck paint on the interior, 6 lugs on both rack toms, 8 lugs on the floor tom, and 10 lugs on the bass drum.

using this website i discovered hat the logo suggests that the drum was made between 1961 and 1969 but on the serial # patch it has (what looks like) a date of 9/72. so as you can see i am quite confused.

i would love to hear any information that you guys may have on this kit. i dont plan on selling it but id still like to hear a price on it. thank you

I am not an authority by any means on this but my thoughts would be -

What do you mean that the logo indicates it was made from 1962-1969? Are you talking about the script font Rogers logo? If so then...

The 9/72 would indicate that this drum was made from 1972 on. Rogers continued to use the script logo on these drums after the operation moved to Fullerton, CA and you can find script logos on drums up through 1974ish. These drums should be the 5 ply maple/poplar/maple/poplar/maple or "mpmpm" construction. From 1975 on, rogers switched to what is called the "Big R" logo which is a large capital R with the same shell construction but then started getting into 8 ply and all kinds of stuff.

Based on what you said about the tags saying 9/72 but being script logos, I would guess that you have some drums made in Fullerton, CA between 1972 and 1974. However, I would have thought that the paper tags would actually have said Fullerton on them. I don't know that for a fact, but I thought it said the city on these 9/72s. Can someone clarify that?

I can't help with price, but I hope that helps a little. Someone please correct me if this info is wrong. It is just my understanding from the little I know.

9/72 Fullerton Ca Rogers USA drums. New England White is the color. First year run. 72/73 by the tags. Very likely three ply shells. Nice drums. Very resonant. If the edges are great, really nice drums. Value..... not the most desirable color, but, just try to buy something new that sounds that good and you will pay for it.
