I'm looking at a picture of a Dynasonic snare with an oval badge with serial number 25xxx. The bottom rim looks like the type for a Big R era drum. Does that seem correct? Or should it have the more square shaped gates? The snare frame looks too new for the serial number also. I'm just wondering if the drum was pieced together or if it might be worth picking up. The drum is on ebay and the seller wants $300 min bid for it. Thanks.

That would be a parts drum. Check Craigslist San Francisco and you can have a very nice Big R era for about 200.00. I have looked at his pictures and it is a nice looking drum.

The "Big R" style snare rims (with the big circular hole in the gates) actually do appear on the late Fullerton oval-badged script Dyna's, but would not have appeared on the serial number you list. Here's a picture of my 1975 all-original 6.5" Dyna (ser #55818). Note the snare hoops.

Thanks guys. I'll keep searching. I'm bound to run into a good price on one at some point.
