Rogers COS SuperTen

Loading...

I have a COS SuperTen with oval badge and serial number 0151. From scanning earlier posts, it seems Ploughman has located these to 1973 with numbers ranging from 0150 to 0275. If you don't have 0150, you can't get too much lower than this one.

Accordingly, this drum is in a time period a little beyond that for which I have specific interest. I'm mostly interested in the Dayton speckled era or very early Fullerton drums ('67-68 catalog and a bit beyond in the transition to borderless Holiday Fullerton tags with serial numbers around 10xxx).

Anyway, if someone is onto these SuperTens, PM me and maybe we can work something out. The drum is in very nice shape with the exception of the bottom hoop, from which some of the chrome has delaminated. I have a clearner, but probably later one on right now that will be included. Need $175 plus shipping or let me know of a potentially interesting trade item. It does sound very good too.

Thanks,

Whomever buys this will be happy, happy, happy.

OK, and thanks for the update Ploughman.

So to all, not as low a number as I might have thought, but still fairly low I guess. Certainly would be a good number for a vehicle license plate here in MA!

I've never played one of these! Can any of you be kind enough to share with me your thoughts as to their characteristics when compared to other well known snares such as old Powertone brass or Ludwig Supraphonics? Many thanks and wishing you all much success!

I have two SuperTen snare drums! A first-year 1973 with oval badge and a Big-R version. Both are 5x14. The shells have excellent edges and snare beds and provide very good sensitivity all the way out to the edges. When needed/required, those steel shells can really crank out the volume! These are really some fine "sleeper" snare drums that are just now being discovered just how good they are!

Forgot to mention that, when compared to the COB Powertone and Ludalloy Supra, you're really comparing apples to oranges! Just the difference in shell material will give a different tone... all good of course! The 8-lug COB Powertone tends to have a slightly lower fundamental, simply due to being an 8-lug drum. That doesn't mean that it can't be sensitive, because mine is! We all pretty much know what the venerable Supra is capable of. It's always a drum of choice for 1000's of drummers, from professionals to hacks like me! LoLoLoLo

+1...

I have owned my 6.5" oval badge Superten for about 17 years now...I recently detailed it and it looks and sounds superb...This is my "go-to" snare for sure...It has a lot of punch, but, as idrum4fun mentioned, it can be sensitive as well...Great for rimshots!!

Thanks to Dan I now have the sibling to my 6.5"...I`ve only played my newly acquired 5" version for a few minutes and I already like the tone of it...

I`d recommend these snares to anyone that likes the sound of a COS snare drum...These are definitely in a class by themselves...

Cheers

I'm very happy that gantro is happy with the drum. It sounds as if a number of you guys are getting some good play with these SuperTens and that's good too.
