Rogers Butcher Block question Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Loading...

Hi,

Been lurking around for a while, finally have an actual question. :-)

I recently picked up my first two vintage kits, a 69 Ludwig Standard and a Rogers Butcher Block Script Logo. The Ludwig was easy to date, but not sure on the Rogers. I think it's a 72/73, but was the Butcher Block finish available in 72? Can't seem to find a color catalog for that year.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thx!

The 9/72 tags with no letter prefix = 1972

Serial number prefix A = '73

B = '74

In 75 they changed to the big R badges.

drastic,

First, welcome to the forum! From the pics of the shells and labels you posted on Flickr, your Rogers butcher block started its life in 1972 as a 4-pc Starlighter kit (go to vintagedrumguide.com and check out the Rogers catalogs). A previous owner added the double tom mount later to mount the 12" tom (which has a 1975 tag) and turned the kit into a 5-pc Londoner outfit. This modification is evident because the double tom mount is not attached to the bass in the factory-installed location which is in front of the Rogers script logo between the lugs, not behind the logo centered on the bass as yours is:

Although Butcher Block is not one of the most popular finishes, your set looks great. Very nice chrome. Thanks for sharing and keep posting.

Thx for the responses guys.

Mike, thanks for all the info! I was wondering about that very thing after looking at the old catalogs. And yes, overall the kit is in really great condition and it sounds great. Definitely happy with the purchase.
