Rogers 6 1/2 X 14 Red Sparkle Holiday snare - how rare is it Last viewed: 7 minutes ago

Loading...

Recently acquired a 1960 (my guess from serial number) Rogers 6 1/2 X 14 red sparkle Holiday snare. Serial number 16958. Few questions. Can not find anything on this snare in the 6 1/2 inch size. How rare is it? Second, it has several of the bread and butter lugs with cracks in it. Best to try and fix them or by the cast replacement ones? Besides the cracked lugs in great shape. Any idea what is it worth? Had old 1970's Rogers kit as kid and wanting to buy kit for daughter. Thanks

Well, you can't really find anything on the 6.5" Holiday because they aren't that common, especially if you have a later one. Like 6.5" Powertones, it is very difficult to put a value on the drum since there is no track record of sale prices. As you probably already know, 6.5" Rogers snares from the Covington era command premium prices. Although b&b lug drums do not generally bring as much as the bvtl versions. A couple of photos would really help to assess the drum.

Re the lugs, either TK's repair method or JP lugs would work. I have a 6.5" Holiday in WMP with Petty reproductions and it plays beautifully. However, I am betting your Holiday also uses the larger size B&B lugs, which maynot be available from Jim. If you are playing the drum, might be worth the extra $$$ for Petty lugs.

Here are the photos of the snare drum. 7 of 8 B&B lugs have at least a small stress crack. All look like they can be repaired. Just going to sell drum to get daughter a set of cheaper drums. I know the replicas B&B lugs are pricy but are available. Going to sell as is and new owner can decide to fix or buy replicas. All original parts I believe except for snare, two lug bolts on inside and bottom head. Any idea what this might be worth?

There was one just like yours on feebay, item number 261888083757, that sold for 749 plus 30 shipping. It was first listed for 799.00 and didn't sell. It was blue sparkle and sold by a long time drum collector that had it for many years. In my opinion this was dirt cheap. The market is very soft right now. These deep 6 1/2 size Rogers drums should be 1000-1500.00 snare drums even with the flater edge Jasper shell and lug issues.

I have been collecting/looking for these deep 6 1/2 Rogers snare drums for the past 15yrs. They don't come up for sale often and I agree with everything member Powertone said. This wasn't the norm size for Rogers snare drums. The catalog sets were all offered/shown all with 5" snares. The deeper models were offered in the catalogs but were mainly concert school drums. You had to speak up and order one like the other Rogers oddities like matching thrones or bongos. Nice drum and find!

Very nice drum, which also looks to be in very good shape. A little bit of fade, which might affect the selling price. Regardless, the snare still has some decent value.

If the drum is still disassembled, please be careful when re-installing the lugs. Don't over tighten the lug to shell mounting screws, because you could break off the tabs. Since you are selling, I wouldn't tension the heads. The new owner will disassemble the shell to repair/replace the lugs anyways.

You will be able to get a very nice kit for your daughter with the funds you get from the sale of this snare. You might even be able to trade for a kit with a member on this forum.

Hats off to "Gary N" for his honesty on wood 6.5" Rogers snares values. This is a great group!

I just put it for sale on this forum. I did put it together loose. One side does show a little fading and is redish orange in bright light but hard to tell in regular light. I should have kept my 70s Rogers Butcher Block set them my daughter would be all set. Hopefully it goes to a good home here if not will ebay it.

I`m cheering for a VDF member to buy this baby, unfortunately it can`t be me as the drum well is low but if it lands in the hands of one of our Rogers drum collectors it will be safe!Best of luck with your sale and may the rewards bring your daughter a nice starter`s set which i`m sure it will.

Good luck with your sale. That is a very nice deep dish Holiday, all correct, and it came through the years safely. I think is also priced well. Gary always nails that pricing nicely. Someone on here needs to grab the old girl so it quits tempting me!
