Damn! I can't believe that Phil Everly has passed. Another great goes to Rock'n'Roll Heaven! I saw the Brothers a couple of times and they were amazing! Phil's harmonies were incredible. He was also a very talented writer. When I was a kid, I bought one of their first albums. I still have it. What an influence Phil had over so many musicians. He will be missed.

Yes sad.. Tightest harmony duo of their time.. and dozens of hits covered by 1000's of artists.. also a big influence on both The Beatles and Beachboys among others..
They were brothers, the voices were so perfectly matched and the harmonies were so smooth and natural, it was an amazing thing to listen to. Some of the very first 45's I ever bought were Everly Bros. songs. Bye, bye love, Cathy's Clown, Wake Up Little Suzie, and my all time favorite from the Bros. 'All I Have To Do Is Dream'.
He'll be missed by many.

I don't know that I've ever been so bummed about a famous person's passing.
My God, I love the Everly Brothers...
Notice that their music is as fresh today as it was then. The sign of a classic effort. If these guys didn't make you want to dance, well...........
If you can manage to isolate (in your head as you listen,) Phil's harmony part in Cathy's Clown, you'll gain a whole new respect for him as a musician. He not only doesn't miss a note, the notes he is hitting are all 3rds or 5ths to Don's part. It's amazing stuff on any level. Just as a pure performance, or taken apart to study it, it's powerful material delivered by two profoundly gifted musicians/singers. Those two voices doing harmony can still send electrical jolts charging up my spine. Makes the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

Yes, their music and singing was amazing. I was just listening to a few of their lps last week too.
The Everly Brothers were really "all there was" as far as great music in the dead music era - between Buddy Holly death in 1959 and the birth of the Beatles in early 1964.
We're all getting older. Stay healthy and keep drumming :)
The Everly brothers were great. I always loved their songs when I was a kid. Their genius was indeed in their harmonies. They didn't write any of their hits. If you like the Everlys, you should listen to the Louvin Brothers, who had that same 'brothers singing' vibe going on, and did similar harmonies.
