reproducing vintage drum parts.. worth the time?

I have a local machinist that does stuff for dirt cheap. Good work too. I was considering going down there and proposing that he make me some fibes spur legs ..and if they turn out right, maybe "mass" producing them and selling them on eBay. I know there's enough guys that have lost these things over the years.. but who thinks there would be enough interestE to make any money here? Or at least break even

Not Fibes spur legs...not too big a market..I would think..

I will sit down and make a list though of things I am always needing..but have to look for...

Bass drum cymbal holders for club date type kits. Those go for $70-80 on ebay, when you can find them. I'd buy a cheaper version.

Okay, this may sound nutty, but... You can normally find American drum parts. Except for crazy scarce and rare stuff, there is really quite a few parts available. The 'crazy scarce and rare' stuff is that way because so few were made. Hence: tiny market.

Now, the nutty part. MIJ stuff. There are tons of bits and pieces for MIJ and I assume European drums that is hard to find. Before you went very crazy, you may want to look around and see if anyone is hoarding this stuff though.

larryz does have an excellent remark, as well. Those bass mounted cymbal posts are sometimes impossible to find.

Unless you are going to chrome or nickel them yourself or have someone to do it for dirt cheap, you may have a bigger expense than you think. Most Chrome/nickel shops have a minimum so you'd have to have at least that many parts made to make it worth your while. Then sit on that investment until it sells.

Are you doing this to get rich? If so then don't even start. If you want to do it to help out a few guys then go for it. But Latz is spot on with the chrome plating.

Thank you!
