Remo Ambassador X Heads? Last viewed: 19 hours ago

Just wondering if anyone's tried these and whether they sound significantly different from the REMO Coated Ambassador Heads? Thanks!

They do sound different. To me they are really dry and dead sounding. I didn't like them at all. I tried it only on snares, both a wood and cos Ludwig. My take - 2 thumbs down. They had some on clearance at my local Sam ash...that's not a good sign about their popularity.

I have used them on a modern kit (sharp double 45 edges) and they were great. Plenty warm with reasonable attack and sustain and better durability than standard single plys. I suspect they may respond better to sharper edges. That said, they dont have the big attack or focus of emperors and were finicky about tuning. YRMV.

You could be right. I tried them on a 65 Slingerland snare, a B&B Rogers snare and a 70's metal Ludwig. No sharp edeges there!

I put one on my 8X14 Ludwig maple snare. The sound is pretty nice.Had to tweak it a little higher than a regular Ambassador

if you want a little bit fatter sound, I would suggest CS-sound in stead of ambassador X......however, a friend of mine used them on DW collectors, and they sounded veeeery good for rock applications!!!
