Red Sparkle 50's Gretsch cleaned up nice Last viewed: 10 minutes ago

I have the drums and most of the hardware cleaned - still have the Hihat and snare stand to clean. The 'yet-to-be-cleaned' bd pedal is there on the right next to a newer one I have.

I didn't clean the cymbals. The 14 hats are very cheap - and old I think - Japanese (stamped Japan). The 15 is a Zildjian Type Two IIb Old Stamp - 1945-49 I'm told. A nice cymbal.

The bell and block and bd hoop mount came with the drums - I like the setup. The Rail Mount is all there except for a few machine bolts that I can easily replace. The bass drum cymbal stand is in excellent condition.

I have some NOS Gretsch Permatone - 1970's - on the batter and resonant tom heads - Gretsch Permatone on the snare batter too. For now I have an EMAD batter on the bd - I have a Gretsch Permatone batter coming. I will probably put a Gretsch Permatone on the bd reso too. As nice as these drums would sound with Calfhide I'm all tapped out on buying calfhide heads for now so these plastic heads will have to do.

The drums are solid and the finish is in very good shape with only a few small 'rash' spots.....very good for being 60 or so years old. Not much fade either.

I was shocked at the packing job the seller did. But she did warn me that she was inexperienced at packing and shipping. There were old clothes, unused adult hospital diapers and empty plastic pop bottles used for wrapping materials. I'm surprised the 6 boxes made it from New York State to Oroville Washington without damage.

Whew, I first read the above as "..poop bottles..". Bizarre :) Nice drums though!

Haha - ya, nice one......I'm so happy the diapers were unused :)

Taking a look around today - at all my stuff - I'm just wondering how it came to be. I have way too many drums.

I might sell them.

I would have to get at least $1950 usd - I have that and more into these (just bought a new Permatone bd batter). If you think about it that's about $1000 less than what you'd pay for a new Custom USA 4pc - pretty close to it I think. And some do like 60 year old 3ply drums.

I'm thinking about it anyway. I just do not have the room and I don't like to see my drums packed up all the time - I like to see, play and enjoy them.

Hi Gary,

Glad the drums have cleaned up well. I know Oroville, WA. More than two boxes showing up on the stagecoach would be front page news :-).

Congrats,

Creighton

Nothing special here but I like them.

What sizes are they ?

Warning ... Avoid member statuscymbal here, vintage_collector on DFO , and americanpatriot10 on eBay. Email me for his name. All are the same shady guy who has burned me and a list of other members on both boards . He is also selling on Facebook too ..
