Hi,
Found this in Music Trade Review, 1917. Have read since about the company subsequently being run by the six sons of Albert. That would make some good reading...
The Houdletts show up a lot in Music Trade Review in the 20's; along with Leedy, Ludwig, C Bruno, Rogers, etc etc. I haven't dug too deeply but in the early twenties they sounded very confident. Bought a whole lumber and hoop operation in Virginia, upgraded their factory in Brooklyn, anywho:
"DEATH OF ALBERT HOUDLETT
Albert Houdlett,- a pioneer maker of musical instruments in Brooklyn, N . Y ., died in that city last week of apoplexy. M r. Houdlett was born in Germany seventy-six years ago, and came to the United States when a young man. About fifty-two years ago he began the manufacture of drums, banjos a n d other musical instruments a n d trimmings, and stayed in that business for many years. H e is survived b y four daughters a n d six sons, twoof thelatter being in theU. S. Army at present."
I expect you already found this page, if not some useful history and the drum illustrated seems to share a lot of features:
